Yia'yan

You follow your guide as she trots on ahead, wings tucked close in against her sides. "Not much farther now," she says, following a bend in the path. You can hear her mumbling to herself "I know it's around here somewhere... everything looks so different from down here... now lets see, turn, rocky outcropping, creek.." she pauses and perks an ear. You do the same, and, sure enough, there's a small bubbling brook nearby. Eranna nods and continues on. Well, at least you're not lost. "Ah," Eranna says at last, "Here we are." you peer past her and blink at a large sqirling portal. Well, you think it looks like a giant magical spiderweb with no middle, but what else could it be but a portal? The center seems to be some other place, somewhere where it's night time. "Shall we?" your guide grins. She trots right on through, and you can only follow.

It takes a moment for your eyes to adjust to the sudden dark beneath this night-time canopy, but already you can see Eranna, the white patches in her coat practically shining in the dim light. "This way," she says, motioning with a wing. You follow her lead, carefully placing your steps so that you don't trip and fall over some tree root or rock hidden in the darkness.
The meadow opens out suddenly before you and you are forced to shield your eyes from the too-bright moons.. wait.. moons? Yes, a pair of moons illuminate the sky, both nearly full. Very strange indeed. A movement catches your eye, so you turn your attention back to the small clearing before you. There, at the other side, playing amongst the tree trunks, is what looks suspiciously like a zebra.. with a unicorn's horn. Eranna moves forward and opens her wings, catching the moonlight and flashing it toward the frolicking zebra-unicorn. Only a second or two, but it's long enough to light up your section of the clearing. The dancing stops as the unicon catches sight of you and Eranna.

Yia's almost as shy as Tey," the winged unicon at your side comments sofly, for your ears alone. "So don't be surprised if she hardly talks." You nod faintly and watch as the zebracorn approches timidly. "Sella'li traveler," she says, her voice so soft you strain to hear the words. She glances at your guide and bobs her head "Eranna," she then turns back to you "If you like I can take you to Zai. He's not far, and it's a lovely night."
Eranna smirks "Well, looks like I'll just leave you here then, shall I? Have agood journey!" and with that, Eranna leaps into the air and wings away, shining white against the dark sky.
Yia watches for a moment, a wistful look in her eyes. "You know, my father has wings." she says, and you suddenly understand. She wishes she could fly. Had her father passed along the wing gene, she surely would have gloried in flight, just as Eranna does, but now, she can only look on. She shakes her head and smiles "Come on, Zai's expecting you. As is Joananna." she nods off down a path leading out of the meadow and starts toward it.
