Janis didn't actually need to leave her home for a good month after that customer. She had all the supplies she needed, and no real reason to leave home. It was a good half a day's walk to the nearest town, anyway. However, she did need something. And that meant a quick trip to market.
"I'm going into town, Bard," she told her pet raven conversationally. The bird looked entirely uninterested. "I want you to keep an eye on things while I'm gone." She eyed him sternly. "No wandering off after a pretty girl like last time." The bird ignored her. "You hear me, Bard? If i come home and you're not here..."
Finally the bird looked at her, cawed once, and opened his wings expansively. He was missing a feather here and there, and the ones that he did have were almost as frazzled as Janis' hair. Neither his voice nor his ragged feathers could ever have been mistaken for an actual bard. Except something in his eye was a little.. odd.
Janis snorted. "No. There aren't any tigers around here anyway." When the bird once again ignored her, she shrugged. "Hey, it's your feathers."
When she left, Bard was perched atop the roof, looking dramatically wretched.
The trip to town was monotonous at best. Today it was actually quite miserable. Janis whistled a little tune to herself as she walked, the third and fourth harmonies were just complicated enough to distract her from the drizzling rain and sharp wind. Though when her whistle split like that, it was terribly hard to get it back into one sound. She'd once gone for a week with a tri-whistle. It was somewhat uncomfortable. Still, it was something to do.
Janis never was much of a town person. Too many people all over the place. It muddled her radar and got so many lines crossed that she couldn't conduct any of her own trade anywhere near them. Which explained the distance of her home from this small town.
